Galatasaray condemns unethical practices of Neom club in the case of Baris Alper Yilmaz

Galatasaray, one of Turkey's most successful and recognizable football clubs, found itself in a media frenzy after it was revealed that Saudi club Neom had attempted to directly contact the representative of young star Baris Alper Yilmaz. According to Turkish media, Neom offered €30 million plus an additional €5 million in bonuses, but this offer was unequivocally rejected by the Istanbul club's board. Galatasaray's minimum bid to begin negotiations is €50 million.
The entire situation sparked enormous outrage among Galatasaray's management. The club immediately issued an official statement emphasizing that Neom's actions were deemed "illegal" and in violation of transfer market rules. Similar practices, known as "tapping-up"—secret negotiations with a player or his entourage without the consent of his current club—are strictly prohibited by FIFA and UEFA. Consequently, Galatasaray announced that it had referred the matter to the appropriate institutions, demanding a response and possible sanctions against the Saudi Arabian club.
The case of Baris Alper Yilmaz is particularly significant, as he is considered one of the greatest talents in Turkish football in recent years. His dynamic style of play, pace, dribbling, and ability to create offensive opportunities have made him a key component of Galatasaray's attack. It's no wonder the Istanbul club is reluctant to part with him for a sum they deem inadequate for his potential as a player and market player.
The entire uproar has reopened the debate about the growing financial power of Saudi Arabian clubs. In recent years, Saudi Arabian teams, supported by massive state investments, have actively sought out players from Europe, offering them exorbitant contracts. However, critics point out that this isn't always done in accordance with applicable regulations, and Yilmaz's case is a prime example.
Galatasaray firmly stated that it will not tolerate such actions and announced that it will take further legal action if necessary. The club's fans unanimously supported the board's decision, emphasizing that Galatasaray's honor and independence are more important than quick financial gain.
